Unified VoIP

Unified telephone systems are those that are designed from the start to work seamlessly with data networks.  They are based on IP technology and blend the very best features of both phone systems and personal computers.  Although a voice terminal that one may use on a unified system looks like a telephone, technically it bears an even closer resemblance to a highly specialized computer.  Its use is almost identical to a personal computer with a headset and a software based telephone, or softphone.  Today softphones are becoming ever more popular because they eliminate the need for a separate telephone on the desktop.  Conversely, IP telephones are now available that offer computer functions such as web browsing or video conferencing built right in.  Unlike the softphone, these flashier IP phones are not likely to replace other technologies.
